The Children's Annex provides support services to young children in their homes and other community settings. Special education, speech and language therapy and counseling can be provided in daycare, preschools and family homes. Collaborative efforts between regular and special education professionals can assist children with special needs to successfully remain in their neighborhood programs. For young children with pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), we can design home programs employing the principles of applied behavioral analysis. These programs utilize discrete trial teaching as an instructional tool to teach a variety of skills within the home.

The Children's Annex is committed to preparing children, whenever possible, to return to a less restrictive educational environment. As a child shows improved ability to function successfully in a Children's Annex placement, an individually designed integration program can provide regular experiences with more typical children or in a more typical educational setting. Consultant teacher services and training programs are provided to our students' school districts to support their efforts to meet special needs. Mainstreaming can occur in academic areas, special subject instruction, recess and lunch. Each child's progress is carefully monitored to ensure a successful experience and to determine when the child is ready to leave The Children's Annex and be placed full time in a less restrictive class setting.
